DIY - 'do it yourself'.... the hottest catch phrase around the last few years. TV shows have made a fortune with those simple three letters. Everyone wants to DIY - it's cool, it's easy, it's saves you money! In my opinion, the only thing worse than a bad DIY project is this....
Why is this worse?? Someone actually paid a "contractor" to build this!!!!
A friend of mine sent me this pic of his neighbour ... it is 100% authentic and I couldn't resist... where to begin.. wrong on so many levels, yet shockingly, the intention was good
No one wants a damp or leaky basement so having eavesthroughs and downspouts draining the water away from the foundation of the home is common knowledge if you're a homeowner, but this guy took it to a whole new level...
Ever trip over a downspout extension? Just in case you're the clumsy type, invest in one of these or some variation of it. It'll extend when raining and roll back up or flatten when dry or how about something like this which extends a few feet away from the home .
If you are not the DIY type and can't install those...hire someone who can, you will thank me, but do not, under any circumstance hire some one that tells you you need to build this.
Building these eye sores 8 feet above ground and extending 4 feet away from the home is not the answer. The lattice...well it doesn't add any element of elegance to your project... screwing two 2 by 4's into your home to hold this up is not a brilliant idea... and lastly, if your still going through with it.....use a level!!!
No matter the industry or profession, there are good ones and there are bad ones. Do your homework when choosing the right professional and you'll see that when you do find them, it'll be better than any DIY attempt.
